Electric forklifts are used for lifting, transporting, and handling pallets. A wide range of electric forklift models enables efficient and easy material handling both outdoors and indoors. Electric forklifts are operated from a seated position, providing a safe and comfortable working environment for operators.
Electric forklift trucks, also known as electric lift trucks, are battery-powered material handling equipment designed for lifting, transporting, and storing pallets both indoors and outdoors. Alwark supplies E and Xi Series models from Linde Material Handling, including both three-wheel and four-wheel versions, with lifting capacities of up to 18 tonnes and lift heights of up to 8 m. Since they produce no direct exhaust emissions during operation and have lower noise levels, these forklifts are often used in environments where internal combustion engines are less suitable due to air-quality or noise requirements.
Electric forklifts produce no direct exhaust emissions during operation and offer lower noise levels, making them particularly suitable for indoor facilities, food and pharmaceutical warehouses, and environments where air quality is important. Diesel and LPG forklifts are more commonly selected for intensive outdoor operations because they do not require charging infrastructure and can provide longer periods of continuous operation. The right choice depends on the working environment, load characteristics, and daily operating intensity.
Three-wheel Linde Xi/E14–E20 and Xi10–Xi20 models offer excellent manoeuvrability in narrow aisles thanks to their rear steering axle with a large steering angle. Four-wheel Xi/E16–E20 P, Xi16–Xi20 RP, and X20–X35 models generally provide greater stability when handling heavier loads of up to 3.5 tonnes, operating on uneven surfaces, or working outdoors. Three-wheel forklifts typically require less aisle width, while four-wheel models provide greater stability when handling heavier loads.
Lead-acid (LAB) batteries are generally less expensive to purchase, but they typically require full charging cycles and a separate, properly ventilated battery charging area in accordance with EN 50272-3. Lithium-ion batteries allow opportunity charging, for example during operator breaks, which can reduce the need for battery changes in multi-shift operations. For single-shift operations, LAB batteries are often sufficient, while Li-ion batteries are frequently preferred for two- or three-shift operations due to reduced downtime and easier day-to-day operation.
In industrial applications, a service life of approximately 10,000–20,000 operating hours is often used as a general reference. However, the actual service life can vary depending on the manufacturer, operating intensity, working environment, and quality of maintenance.
Regular maintenance in accordance with the manufacturer’s recommendations helps reduce the risk of premature component wear. Alwark performs a 40-point inspection on used equipment and provides a warranty and documented service history, making used equipment a potentially cost-effective alternative to purchasing new machinery.
Alwark offers both short-term and long-term equipment rental. Short-term rental is commonly chosen for seasonal peaks, project-based work, or as replacement equipment during repairs. Long-term rental (12–60 months) generally includes preventive maintenance, and replacement equipment may be provided in the event of a breakdown.
New equipment is covered by the Linde manufacturer’s warranty. Used equipment comes with a 6–12-month warranty following the 40-point inspection. Spare parts generally carry a 6–12-month warranty, while selected parts may be covered for up to 5 years. Service work is covered by a 6-month workmanship warranty.
